Defence Headquarters announces date for Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh’s funeral
The Defence Headquarters has announced the date for the burial of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd).
In a statement made available on Friday, January 18th, the acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General John Agim, said activities lined-up for the interment of the former defence chief will begin on Sunday, January 20th with the Service of Songs scheduled to hold at the Nigerian Air Force Base Protestant Church in Abuja.
This would be followed by a church service expected to hold at the same venue on Wednesday, January 23rd.
The former defence chief would be laid to rest later in the afternoon at the National Military Cemetery in the nation’s capital.
Recall that Badeh was gruesomely murdered while returning from his farm in Abuja on December 18th, 2018.
Offa robbery: Court adjourns hearing, warns prosecution against ‘delay tactics’
The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has adjourned the trial of five suspects accused of robbing banks and killing several people in Offa last year.
When the matter came up for hearing on Friday, Justice Halimah Salman reluctantly adjourned the case after the prosecutor pleaded with the court to give him more time to properly study the case.
He, however, said he was prepared for the prosecutor to show that they have the capacity to do well in the case.
Justice Salman thereafter adjourned the case till January 25 and stated that she reluctantly took the decision.
Her words: “I don’t like what is happening in this case. It is unfortunate that the Attorney General did not give you (prosecution team leader) the file on time. I don’t want that later they will be blaming the court.”

A wife has been detained after she allegedly burned her husband alive because he refused to give her his phone's PIN code.
Ilham Cahyani, 25, asked Dedi Purnama, 26, to give her the passcode
to his mobile device while he was working on the roof of their home
repairing tiles in the village of Pandanwangi, Indonesia, but he
refused. An argument ensued and he climbed down from the roof and hit
her.This led to a physical fight and Cahyani allegedly grabbed hold of a can of petrol and poured it over Dedi. She then set him alight with a lighter.
A witness identified as Oji told reporters how he had run over to the scene after spotting the flames. He saw Dedi on fire and helped put the fire out.
Police chief Made Yogi revealed Purnama was rushed to the Keruak Health Centre and underwent treatment for two days. Sadly, he died after the second day.
Cahyani has been arrested for killing her husband and reportedly remains in custody at East Lombok Regional Police Station.
School Teacher, 52, kidnapped 15-year-old student then raped her everyday as he was on the run with her
Tad Cummins, 52, who was married and has two daughters of his own, stole his wife’s car and filled a prescription for an erectile dysfunction drug before he set off across the country with Elizabeth Thomas.
Cummins and the teen were on the run for weeks after he took her from rural Tennessee to a remote cabin in California in 2017. The national manhunt ended when Cummin was arrested at a California cabin.
One year after the incident, Thomas narrated her ordeal in a victim statement, saying:
I was scared. I don’t want to tell my parents that a grown man kissed me. I don’t want to tell my friends that a grown man kissed me.According to Thomas, Cummins began by raping her in the closet of his high school classroom.
It was fourth period. Next thing I know, he said, “You’d look pretty nice naked.

He’d open up his closet door and look at me a certain way and I knew if I didn’t go in he’d be upset and I was afraid to see him angry.Cummins was suspended from the school after someone at the school saw them kissing on a school bus and reported him. But he convinced Thomas to leave with him as he fled town.
Elizabeth Thomas said:
He said that if he couldn’t have me he’d kill himself.
A while after Cummins was arrested following weeks of a police search, Thomas told authorities that she and Cummins had sex ‘every day as they traveled from state to state.’
In court on Wednesday, January 16, Thomas' victim statement was read by Assistant US Attorney Sarah Meyers. In the statement, Thomas referred to Cummins as a ‘sick, disgusting criminal’ who ‘violate me over and over again for months.’
The victim statement also reads: 'You preyed upon a vulnerable girl. I will live with the scars you left on me forever.'
Cummins pleaded guilty to transporting a minor across state lines for sex and obstructing justice and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Wednesday.
He broke down crying in court and apologized for the harm he caused Thomas and his own family, including his wife and two daughters who were in the courtroom. Cummins called the kidnapping a ‘misguided attempt to help that went sideways in a way I don’t know I’ll ever understand.’

He told the victim's family in court: ‘If someone had done this to one of my girls I would want to hurt them, and I fully understand if you feel that way about me.’
